Our 15-year-old son had the following to say about Hope Giver:
I love that girl. She was so good to me, and even though that she took awhile to warm up to me, it was worth waiting the whole weekend. When she left, I had tears in my eyes, but then, somehow, I knew I would see her again, and that gave me hope. I love you, girl.
I’ll share just a bit more detail so you know what he’s talking about that “was worth waiting the whole weekend.” For the first couple of days that Hope Giver was here, she would often smile at our son from a distance, or watch him from across the room, but did not necessarily want him near her, or touching her.
This kind of hurt his feelings. Actually, no “kind of” about it. He fully admitted by Saturday night that he was hurt by it. We tried to help him understand that it wasn’t personal, but it was hard to see that from his perspective. (The reality was, she wasn’t real crazy about someone else — even me or Christy — coming near if she didn’t want to leave the person she was being held by at the moment! So it definitely was not just directed at him.)
Sunday afternoon, however, a miracle happened. Hope Giver was sitting on my lap, seemingly very content. All of a sudden, she climbed down off my lap, toddled over to where our son was sitting, and held her arms up to him for him to pick her up. He quickly (and quite happily) pulled her up onto his lap, and she sat there interacting with him and enjoying being on his lap!
It was a very beautiful moment, and one for which I really thank God!

just now got caught up on your postings here, since my bloglines account has been “disabled” or whatever. thanks for sharing all your thoughts. it’s been fun to read from a distance, but it would be even better if we actually could meet this little “hope giver” next month!!
